Dubai Metro - success or a mess?

Dubai: An average of 63,986 people daily, are using the Dubai Metro. The train system started rolling down the rails on September 9, 2009 and seems to be a hit for everyone who wants to get somewhere safely and on time.

The Dubai Metro is certainly faster than walking, much faster than cars, and quite literally faster than anything that moves on Dubai’s streets. Six months after the launch of the train system the local population is showing their joy and expressing their happiness in many ways.

The Metro is more than just transportation for the people working in Dubai. It’s a convenient helping hand that makes their lives invariably easier, more efficient and much safer.

In the recent past, most would spend several hours simply trying to get from point A to point B. But by taking the new Metro system, their travel and commute time has been cut by at least a third of what they had previously accepted as the norm. In this sense they can get that last little bit of extra sleep while also arriving to work securely and on time; relaxed and free of stress. And most importantly they can go home after work and not be exhausted from the long hours and anxiety of commuting.

As well, students living in Dubai have already embraced the metro as their top choice of transport. There are always people around which makes it safer and it’s much more cost effective, allowing them more time in school rather than on their way to it.

People from all walks of life are taking the Metro, including day workers, students, mothers, Emiratis and many more. For some it’s a great social equalizer, as it keeps the Dubai citizens down to earth.

It seems then that the Dubai Metro has changed and touched many lives all across the spectrum, with its ease of use allowing for happy and contented daily journeys. So why take a taxi or bus; with all the fuss and the great mess, when you could travel the Metro in fun and success?

Lets just not call bus or a tax a mess as they're also a part of public transportation and have their earning from it.

But apart from that, I feel environmentally this is a very good thing and I hope it would have encouraged all the car owners too to safe fuel costs and go in the metro to reach quickly without having to worry about traffic. The result would be, there will be lesser CO2 emissions.

This is a great initiative and I am sure it'll keep on expanding and getting better in many ways.
