BlackBerry Messenger might Face Closure in KSA

BlackBerry service users would soon have to say bye-bye to the BlackBerry Messenger service in KSA. Reports say that the Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has asked Canada-based Research in Motion (RIM), the company that owns the popular mobile device, to allow the telecommunications regulator access to monitor messages sent by BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM.

BBM which is the most popular messaging service for BlackBerry phone users for a monthly flat fee may have to stop its service on Saturday. The CITC did not say anything for certain but according to a report in Al-Watan newspaper, the CITC wants to have access in order to monitor the messages in the BBM network, threatening to shut down the service for non-compliance. Uproar has been triggered among BlackBerry users in Jeddah where people are very upset with the news of service shutting down. No clear comment is given by the CITC and RIM is still investigating the matter and will provide further information at a later time.
