Old fish market with new costume

Oman: Modern and tourist friendly. The busy old fish market in Muscat will soon look complete different.

As Oman strives to attract more tourists, the old fish market in Muscat will soon be rebuilt.

The Norweigan architect firm Snøhetta is already jotting down the outlines of a modern version.

“The fish market has been here a long time. We will make it up-to-date and tourist friendly. It is important to develop the old part of the city and its harbour”, says architect Robert Greenwood to DN.

It remains to see if the new fish market will be yet another modern building in the Gulf, or if it will keep the charm that has made the fish market in Muscat the best in the Gulf region.
