Blood money
Money paid to the next of kin of a killed victim as a fine. Compensation is being paid for murder and case of unnatural death, such as industrial or road accident and death in a fire. The prescribed blood money is as follows:
-RS100,000 if the victim is a Muslim man
-RS50,000 if a Muslim woman
-RS50,000 if a Christian man
-RS25,000 if a Christian woman
-RS6,666 if a Hindu man
-RS3,333 if a Hindu woman
Blood money, diyyah in Arabic, was calculated 30 years ago and is based on the price for hundred camels. As the price for camels has towered, so has the blood money.
Today, families of the deceased are making demands for millions, sums that are impossible to raise and which, if raised, often push the offender’s family into debt for generations.
The market rate for a camel depends on breed, gender and age, but range from SR3,000 ($800) to millions. Some Islamic scholars urge that only common camels should be included.

Funny how the blood money price for Christians and Hindus' are so low than the price for a Muslim man - if the rules are according to Muslim laws and Islam is a peace teaching religion with equality as its base - I wonder why would it then promote racism?
Zara, absolutely if you take a look, there's inequality between Muslim men and Muslim women so how can we expect an equal rights for all religions?
Secondly, I don't get one thing, as long as it's murder I think that's a big crime so why commit this serious crime at first ? Yes okay in cases of road accidents or other accidents, that's fine to me but not in case of murder, because a murderer would know that he/she has to pay blood money then why kill someone and make the family of the person dependent upon your blood money?
