Number of hotel rooms will explode in Qatar

Qatar: The number of hotel rooms will increase with 70 percent this year. That brings pressure to the tourist industry which saw a drop in occupancy levels with 6.3 percent last year.

-Room in three-star hotels: 964 in 2008. 1,084 in 2009 -Room in four-star hotels: 2,155 in 2008. 2,760 in 2009 -Room in five-star hotels: 3,056 in 2008. 4,059 in 200941 new hotels bring 4,689 new hotel rooms to Qatar, according to the Peninsula. That is an increase with 70 percent comparing with 2009.
The industry is facing formidable challenges to keep its profits soaring in the wake of fierce competition.
The number of available hotel rooms increased by 25 percent last year. During the same time, occupancy level declined with 6.3 percent. Revenues earned by four and five-star hotels fell by QR33millions (USD9m) and QR10 millions (USD2,75m) respectively.
“The global economic crisis has taken its toll on the world tourism sector,” says Ahmed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, chairman at Qatar Tourist Authority. “A thriving hotel industry is a key component for the tourism sector.”
QTA arranged a meeting with managers of four and five-star hotels to discuss ways to keep their earnings up. During the meeting, hotels were asked to think of new and innovative ways to attract customers.
“The hotels should hold special events and organise promotions to attract more customers,” said Al Nuaimi.

All businesses, be it in the hotel and tourism industry or food or music or entertainment, have to have ways to survive the economic recession. Strategy, I believe is one of the keys for any kind of industry to thrive. That is what I made sure to implement on a few of my idx websites and they are still doing great so far.
Well this is supposed to be some great news for the customer. If the hotel owners gathered to find out new ways to attract more people than my advice for them would be to do whatever they can without majoring the actual prices level. I am sure they would find some good solutions though, most hotels in that part of the world make a great job in satisfying its customers. I had to look for some Dubai accommodation one year ago, and the offers were so numerous and appealing that it was a difficult choice to make which one i would be checking in.
Indeed this is good news for tourist and local customer.When I was at Dubai I saw many skyscraper hotel and provides good hospitality to the visitor.I have experience the hospitality of Hotel Ramada in Dubai.Staffs of the hotel behaves in good manner and never get angry with the customer.
