"The Gulf is Persian"

Iran: The water between the Arabic Peninsula and Iran should be called “Persian Gulf” on aeroplanes. Otherwise, deal with the consequences.

That is the message from Iran’s Transport Minister, Hamid Behbahani. He gives aeroplanes that use the airspace of the country, 15 days to comply with the new rule:

All planes must use the term Persian Gulf on their in flight monitors. If not, they will not be allowed to fly over the country. Repeated offences will result in planes being impounded and refused permission to leave the country.

This intensifies the nation’s battle to convince the world that the Gulf is Persian.

Representatives from the country have travelled the world with an ancient map, showing that the name “Persian Gulf” is indeed old. Conferences have been arranged to eliminate all doubts. Recently, a Greek cabin crew member at the Iranian carrier Kish Air, was sacked and deported. Reason: He argued with a passenger about whether the name should be Arabian Gulf or Persian Gulf.
